After graduating from the institute from 1966 to 1969, O.B. Loran worked as a surgeon at the Saldinsky City Hospital (Verkhnyaya Salda, Sverdlovsk Region), where he specialized in elective and emergency surgery and urology. From 1969 to 1972 he was an intern at the urogynecological department of the hospital named after. S.P. Botkin. At that time, the course of urogynecology at the Central Institute for the Improvement of Physicians was led by Doctor of Medical Sciences Dmitry Vavilievich Kan. A brilliant surgeon and teacher D.V.Kan for many years was an indisputable authority and mentor for O.B.Loran both in science and in practice. Under his leadership, Oleg Borisovich was formed as a highly qualified specialist and scientist, having defended in 1973. PhD, and in 1990. - doctoral dissertation. At the Department of Urology of the Moscow Medical Dental Institute (now the Moscow State University of Medicine and Dentistry), Oleg Borisovich went from assistant to head of the department of urology with courses in urogynecology and andrology

In October 2001, he was elected head of the Department of Urology at the Russian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education. He returned to the Botkin Hospital - the base of the Department of Urology, where 30 years ago he formed himself as a urologist.

The main direction of scientific and practical activity of O.B. Loran are the problems of reconstructive plastic urology, andrology and urogynecology. He developed and put into practice unique operations to restore the urethra, treat complex and recurrent forms of urinary incontinence, the consequences of damage to the ureters and bladder in women; experimentally substantiated and applied in the clinic operations for the formation of an artificial bladder from isolated segments of the intestine after cystectomy for bladder cancer, shriveled bladder and interstitial cystitis.

One of the first in the country, Professor O.B. Loran began performing radical prostatectomy, implanting a domestic artificial bladder sphincter, in the development of which he was directly involved. Under his leadership, the urological clinic developed original methods of phalloplasty and total urethroplasty using vascularized skin flaps, phalloprosthetics, restoration of vas deferens patency in male infertility, etc.

In the field of operative urogynecology and reconstructive plastic surgery, Professor O.B. Loran is a recognized authority in Russia and abroad, he has the world's largest experience in the reconstruction of the urethra in women, which is reflected in one of his monographs. On the problems of urogynecology, Professor O.B. Loran delivered a course of lectures at universities in France and the USA. The original and effective plastic surgeries developed by him were repeatedly presented at Russian and international urological congresses and were highly appreciated by specialists. Professor O.B. Loran has been awarded diplomas from the American Urological Association and the American Urological Foundation for his unique surgical technique. Under his leadership, two international symposiums on operative andrology were held.
